D-Day beaches in Normandy could receive UNESCO World Heritage status in late July
UNESCO is set to decide between July 24 and 27 on whether to grant World Heritage status to Normandy's D-Day landing beaches. The application, submitted nearly 20 years ago, covers Pointe du Hoc, the German artillery battery at Longues-sur-Mer, Port Mulberry, and numerous military cemeteries and memorials. The listing would be one of the most significant recognitions of a Second World War site in history.
