Pan Am wreck found after 74 years — 35 of 52 crash survivors died due to onboard chaos
The wreck of a Pan Am aircraft that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off Puerto Rico has been located 74 years after the disaster. All 52 people aboard survived the initial water impact, but only 17 — including all crew members — were rescued, as chaos, a lack of prior safety briefings and passengers ignoring crew instructions proved fatal for the rest. The crash fundamentally reshaped passenger safety protocols in aviation.
