Single-atom measurements reveal non-Gaussian fluctuations at phase transitions
Single-atom measurements have detected non-Gaussian fluctuations of the order parameter and critical scaling behaviour across a continuous phase transition. The results highlight that full statistical distributions — not just averages — are essential for understanding universality near phase transitions. The study was published in Nature on 22 July 2026.
