Gene location inside the nucleus controls bivalent chromatin activity

Research published in Nature on 22 July 2026 shows that the spatial position of a gene within the cell nucleus is essential for understanding its epigenomic regulation. Subnuclear genome compartmentalisation controls the activity of bivalent chromatin, which marks genes poised for either activation or silencing.
