Drosophila transcriptional atlas reveals a shared neuronal identity code

A high-resolution developmental transcriptional atlas of the Drosophila melanogaster nerve cord has identified a shared molecular code that records the birth order of neurons and organises their diversity. The findings could advance understanding of how neurons acquire their identities during development. The study appeared in Nature on 22 July 2026.
