Australia trains emergency services in analog navigation in case satellites go down

Australian military and emergency services personnel are being trained in paper map reading, GPS-free navigation and celestial sailing in case a solar flare or other event knocks out the nation's satellite infrastructure. A panel at the 19th Australian Space Forum in Adelaide raised the scenario of losing access to all satellites, GPS, remote sensing and secure communications. The training covers both analog navigation and communication techniques.
