Google has been hard at work improving the user experience of Chrome on Android. The company recently added new features, including a redesigned navigation bar . Now, it’s working on a change that will make pretty much every internet user breathe a sigh of relief.

In a post on the Chrome for Developers blog, the company announced that it’s making some changes to how the browser displays notification prompts on Android (via PiunikaWeb ). Right now, if a website wants your permission to show notifications, the prompt basically hijacks your screen until you allow or block it.

Volkswagen isn’t the only one trimming headcount in Europe’s largest automaking group. A new report says Porsche is preparing its own round of job cuts, with the supervisory board having signed off on a wider restructuring package to go along with them.

The German sports car maker is now run by Michael Leiters, who spent just under three years as chief executive of McLaren before taking the job. He replaced Oliver Blume, who had been splitting his attention between the top seats at both VW and Porsche.

As part of his efforts to turn the company around, Leiters could cut between 5,000 and 6,000 jobs by 2035, in addition to the 3,900 redundancies already announced while Porsche was being helmed by Blume. Reuters reports that plans may be presented to workers next week.

Porsche has long been one of the VW Group’s best-performing brands, consistently posting strong profits thanks to its higher-priced models. However, it posted a 93 percent drop in operating profit last year, triggered in part by the costs associated with international tariffs, in addition to declining sales in China and its overcommitment to electric powertrains.

Earlier this year, Leiters said Porsche would lean more heavily into high-margin models like the 911 , while also simplifying its line-up. Importantly, the brand does not intend on boosting volumes as part of its restructuring.

Where Did Things Go Wrong?

Significant amounts of money have been lost on the electric 718 Boxster/Cayman and electric K1 projects. Not only has Porsche walked back its commitment to exclusively build the next-generation Boxster and Cayman as EVs, but its flagship K1 mega SUV will also not be sold solely with an electric powertrain. Instead, it will switch from VW’s Scalable Systems Platform to the Premium Platform Combustion architecture, supporting several V6 and V8 options, as well as numerous hybrids.

From the scourge of Generative AI to the RAM crisis , from PlayStation axing discs to Xbox cutting legendary studios off at the knees , it seems like gaming is under attack from every angle. The industry is in dire straits, with studios seemingly no longer able to bank on the success of AAA blockbusters or Live Service behemoths like it used to. Even the biggest game ever, the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 , has had a troubled announcement, with its $80 price tag and discless contents getting people’s backs up.

It’s easy to feel helpless when seemingly insurmountable problems hit a medium you love, and speaking out feels like you’re merely howling into the void. But based on historic events, it's true that when enough gamers make themselves heard — and when they vote with their wallets — positive changes can occur, bad decisions can be reversed and better futures can be laid. Hey, even Xbox rolled back its Game Pass price hike (to an extent) .

So we want to hear from you — which issue are you most concerned about? Participate in our poll below and tell everyone what you think. No doubt many if not all of these issues are interconnected. For instance, I can’t help but laugh at the cruel irony of the RAM being used to power the Gen AI tools for the purposes of developing games more cheaply is pushing up the price of the systems for playing those games. Of course, there’s no easy fix to any one of them, but we’ll follow up by dissecting the results and discussing the potential routes to bring gaming out from the dark place it’s currently stuck in.
