NASA's Juno maps heat beneath the surface of Jupiter's moon Io

NASA's Juno spacecraft used its Microwave Radiometer to measure temperatures 2–6 metres beneath the surface of Jupiter's moon Io, producing a heat map of the most volcanically active world in the solar system. The map reveals a distinct temperature gradient across the moon, with the most extreme localised heat shown in red. The data complements infrared surface measurements and sheds new light on Io's interior structure.
