EU says European generics are exempt from Trump's new 100% pharma tariffs

The European Commission stated on Wednesday that European generic medicines are exempt from Donald Trump's new pharmaceutical tariffs under the transatlantic trade deal signed in Turnberry, Scotland in 2025. Trump announced on Tuesday that he would impose 100% tariffs on generics from August 2028, rising to 200% in 2029, to bring drug manufacturing back to the US. The Turnberry agreement commits Washington to a zero tariff rate on EU generic drug exports.
