World of Hyatt Credit Card: top mid-tier hotel card for $95 a year

I've held the World of Hyatt Credit Card (see rates and fees ) for eight years, and despite carrying more than 25 credit cards, it's one I'll continue renewing year after year.

The reason is simple: World of Hyatt is my favorite hotel loyalty program, and this card makes it even more rewarding to stay with the brand. Between an annual free night, automatic elite status and the ability to earn valuable Hyatt points on spending, I consistently receive far more value than the card's affordable $95 annual fee.

It isn't the right fit for everyone. Hyatt has a much smaller global footprint than Marriott, Hilton and IHG, so travelers who rarely stay at Hyatt hotels may be better served by a more flexible travel rewards card. However, if Hyatt is already part of your travel plans — or you'd like it to become one — the World of Hyatt card is one of the best mid-tier hotel cards on the market. Card rating*: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

World of Hyatt card: The basics

If you're comparing several hotel credit cards, here's what you need to know at a glance:

Annual fee : $95

Top benefits : An annual free night, complimentary Discoverist status, an elite status boost, valuable travel protections and the ability to spend your way to another free night and higher elite status

Best for : Travelers who stay with Hyatt at least twice a year and want to earn free nights while working toward elite status

Unlike cards that earn transferable rewards , this is very much a Hyatt-focused product. If you're loyal to Hyatt — or want an affordable way to accelerate your progress toward higher status — it deserves serious consideration.

The World of Hyatt Credit Card comes with some notable perks.

Annual free night certificates

If there's one reason why I continue paying the World of Hyatt card's annual fee, it's the anniversary free night certificate .

Each cardholder anniversary, you'll receive a free night award valid at any Category 1-4 Hyatt hotel or resort. Since Hyatt prices these properties between 3,000 and 25,000 points per night, there's plenty of opportunity to extract well over $95 in value.

I've redeemed my certificates at The Standard, Brussels , Hyatt House Manchester in the U.K. and Andaz Mexico City Condesa. In each case, paying cash would have cost considerably more than the card's annual fee.

The Standard, Brussels. HYATT Even better, you can earn a second Category 1-4 certificate after spending $15,000 on the card in a calendar year.

That's the spending threshold I personally target each year. It unlocks another free night and an additional six elite night credits toward Hyatt status for even more value beyond the points you'll earn from that spending.

Automatic elite status and elite night credits

Simply holding the card gives you complimentary Discoverist status .

While Discoverist isn't Hyatt's most rewarding elite tier, I still appreciate benefits like preferred room upgrades and late checkout (when available) and a 10% bonus on eligible Hyatt spending.

That said, for frequent Hyatt guests, this perk probably won't be all that enticing since they're likely to earn Discoverist status organically. Where the card becomes more valuable is in working toward a higher status level.

HYATT Every calendar year, you'll receive five qualifying night credits automatically, and you'll earn another two qualifying night credits for every $5,000 spent.

I've found those elite night credits incredibly valuable. By combining the five annual elite nights from the card with my Hyatt stays and strategic spending to earn an additional six nights, I qualified for top-tier Globalist status in August 2025, which I'll enjoy through February 2027.

Useful travel protections

Chase issues this card, so you'll receive several useful travel protections, including:

An auto rental collision damage waiver

Baggage delay insurance

Lost luggage reimbursement

Trip interruption and trip cancellation insurance

These protections aren't as extensive as those you'd receive with a premium travel card , but that's to be expected given this card's modest annual fee.

How to earn and use your Hyatt points

One of my favorite things about the World of Hyatt program is that earning and redeeming points is refreshingly straightforward.

Unlike most major hotel loyalty programs, Hyatt still publishes an award chart , making award pricing much more predictable.

Earning points

The World of Hyatt Credit Card earns:

4 points per dollar spent on purchases at all Hyatt properties

2 points per dollar spent at restaurants and on airline tickets purchased directly from airlines, local transit and commuting (including ride-hailing services) and gym memberships

1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases

When you stay at Hyatt hotels, these earnings stack with the points you earn as a World of Hyatt member. Since cardholders receive complimentary Discoverist status, you'll also earn a 10% bonus on your base points, meaning you can earn up to 9 total points per dollar spent on eligible Hyatt purchases. That represents a solid 15% return on Hyatt purchases, per our July 2026 valuations .

HYATT I generally use this card for Hyatt stays and tax payments that help me reach the $15,000 annual threshold for the second free night certificate.

Otherwise, I typically use my Chase Sapphire Reserve® (see rates and fees ) for most travel and dining purchases, then transfer those Chase Ultimate Rewards points to my Hyatt account whenever I need to top up my balance for an award stay.

That gives me the best of both worlds: I earn more rewards on everyday travel and dining while keeping my points flexible until I'm ready to book. If I don't end up needing Hyatt points, I can always transfer them to one of Chase's 13 other airline or hotel partners instead.

Redeeming points

In my opinion, Hyatt points remain among the most valuable hotel points due to their flexibility.

Award nights start at just 3,000 points for an off-peak night at a Category 1 property and range up to 75,000 points for a top-tier Category 8 property under Hyatt's five-tier standard award chart .

I've used Hyatt points for everything from inexpensive city breaks to luxury resorts. Some of my favorite redemptions include:

Poland's Hyatt Place Krakow, where I stretched my points at one of Hyatt's best-value Category 1 properties

Malaysia's Alila Bangsar Kuala Lumpur, an upscale Category 2 property that can be booked for as few as 6,000 points per night

Morocco's Park Hyatt Marrakech , where I redeemed 105,000 Hyatt points for a three-night stay that would have cost more than $1,600 in cash, matching our 1.6-cents-per-point valuation

While those options can make sense occasionally, I almost always get the best value by redeeming points for standard award nights.

Where the World of Hyatt card falls short

Despite being one of my favorite hotel credit cards, the World of Hyatt Credit Card won't be the right fit for every traveler.

The biggest drawback is Hyatt's relatively small footprint. While Hyatt has more than 1,400 hotels and all-inclusive properties across 80-plus countries, that's still far fewer than Marriott or Hilton. If you frequently travel to destinations without a Hyatt, you may struggle to maximize the card's benefits.

RACHEL CRAFT/THE POINTS GUY Those who prioritize earning the highest possible rewards on everyday spending will likely find better options elsewhere. Beyond Hyatt purchases and spending toward the $15,000 threshold for a second free night certificate, this card isn't particularly rewarding for dining, travel or everyday purchases.

Finally, travelers looking for premium perks like airport lounge access, annual travel credits and luxury benefits across multiple hotel brands should consider a premium travel rewards card instead.

World of Hyatt Credit Card vs. World of Hyatt Business Credit Card

For most travelers, I think the personal World of Hyatt Credit Card is the better choice over the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card (see rates and fees ).

Both cards help you earn Hyatt points and elite status, but the business version is designed primarily for business owners. It offers bonus categories geared toward business spending and additional benefits for companies, while the personal card provides a better long-term value for most travelers, thanks to its annual Category 1-4 free night certificate.

By comparison, I think the World of Hyatt Business card's $199 annual fee is much harder to justify year after year because it doesn't include an anniversary free night certificate or another standout perk that can consistently offset the cost.

Unless you own a business and can maximize the business-specific earning categories, I'd start with the personal card.

When to apply for the World of Hyatt card

The World of Hyatt Credit Card currently offers new cardholders up to 75,000 points:

Earn 45,000 bonus points after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.

Plus, earn up to 30,000 more bonus points by earning 2 bonus points total per dollar spent in the first six months from account opening (on purchases that normally earn 1 point, on up to $15,000 spent).

Our valuations peg Hyatt points at 1.6 cents each, making this offer worth up to $1,200.

That said, we've seen an even better bonus in the past. The best-ever welcome offer included five free night awards (offer no longer available), which could provide substantially more value than points depending on how you redeem them. If you're in no rush to apply, that's the offer I'd wait for.

Plus, it earns transferable Chase Ultimate Rewards points that can be redeemed with Hyatt (at a 4:3 ratio) and Chase's other airline and hotel partners (at a 1:1 ratio). If you spend a lot on housing and groceries or dining : The Bilt Obsidian Card (see rates and fees ) carries the same $95 annual fee as the World of Hyatt card and earns bonus points on rent and mortgage payments as well as grocery or dining purchases. Bilt Points can be transferred to Hyatt or 24 other airline and hotel partners, making the rewards currency one of the most flexible available. Bottom line

I've carried the World of Hyatt Credit Card for eight years, and it's one of the few hotel credit cards I have no intention of canceling.

The annual Category 1-4 free night certificate has consistently offset the card's $95 annual fee, while the elite night credits helped me qualify for Globalist status last year, a benefit I'll enjoy through early 2027. Add in Hyatt's industry-leading redemption value, and it's easy to see why this remains my favorite mid-tier hotel credit card.

If you regularly stay at Hyatt properties, I think the World of Hyatt card deserves a place in your wallet. If you rarely stay with Hyatt, though, you'll probably get more long-term value from a flexible travel rewards card.
