Rare twin echidna puggles hatched at San Diego Zoo Safari Park

Two echidna hatchlings, known as "puggles", were born at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park to the same mother during a single breeding season — an extremely rare occurrence according to the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance. Both babies hatched earlier this year. Echidnas are egg-laying mammals, and twin births are almost unheard of in the species.
