June heatwave cost Europe's grain farmers €2bn and destroyed 10 million tonnes of crops

A new analysis by Coceral, the European cereals and oilseeds trade association, estimates that June's heatwave destroyed around 10 million tonnes of grain and cost farmers €2bn in lost revenue. Total EU grain output — covering wheat, barley, maize and oats — is now forecast to be 9 million tonnes below pre-heatwave projections, potentially the worst harvest in a decade. Analysts warn of knock-on effects on food prices.
