Cadillac Revives Gas-Powered XT6 After EV Sales Flop

Cadillac’s vice president has confirmed plans for a new XT6.

Will likely be built in Spring Hill, TN and arrive in a few years.

The first-gen three-row crossover was phased out in 2025.

Not that long ago, Cadillac touted an all-electric future . As a result, they largely dismissed their gas-powered lineup and focused on launching a series of new EVs.

Unfortunately for them, reality set in and revealed most people aren’t ready to go electric. A look at the sales chart tells the story as the ancient XT5 found 11,107 buyers in the first half of the year. It was envisioned to be replaced by the Lyriq , but that model only found 7,578 takers.

It’s even more telling when you look at the discontinued XT6 . In the first half of 2025, Cadillac sold 9,637 units. Through the first six months of 2026, the Vistiq has only found 3,903 buyers. That means full year sales of the luxurious EV will likely fall well below what the XT6 did in just six months.

That’s not good news, so it’s little surprise that Global Cadillac Vice President Kristian Aquilina has announced plans for a new XT6. In a LinkedIn post noticed by Car & Driver , he noted Cadillac is a leader in electrification, but the market has evolved.

As part of an effort to adjust, Aquilina said Cadillac is “aligning our product mix with real-world customer adoption across the luxury market. A key part of that is the return of an all-new XT6… alongside next-generation XT5 and CT5 .”

The VP went on to say they’ll continue to invest in electric vehicles, but they’re banking on “internal combustion entries where demand remains strong.” In effect, they’re admitting they got too ambitious about EVs and are trying to limit the damage of putting all their eggs in one basket.

Aquilina didn’t elaborate, but there’s little doubt the XT6 is the “future Cadillac internal-combustion product” that was announced in June. At the time, the automaker said they were investing $150 million into Spring Hill Assembly to produce the model.

The new XT5 and XT6 will likely have a lot in common and it’s natural to assume they’ll follow in the footsteps of the Chinese five-seater that was introduced in 2024. Since the XT5 arrives next year, expect the XT6 to follow in 2028 or 2029.
