Germany approves French-Russian nuclear fuel rod project despite spy fears

Germany's environment ministry has approved a joint venture between a subsidiary of France's Framatome and Russia's state-owned Rosatom to produce fuel rods for Russian-designed reactors in Lingen, northwestern Germany. The project raised concerns about Russian espionage, but German authorities stated they had "no legal possibility to reject" it. The approval is controversial given the ongoing war in Ukraine and Western sanctions against Russia.
