NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope to photograph Jupiter-like exoplanets with active coronagraph

NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, set to launch as early as the end of next month, will carry the first space-based "active" coronagraph — an instrument that effectively erases most of a star's light to allow planetary photography. It will attempt to image planets orbiting other stars similar to those in our solar system, particularly Jupiter-like worlds. Researchers hope the technology will ultimately pave the way for photographing Earth-like planets.
