Rare "Snake Worm" Processions Spotted on Beskid Niski Trail

Internet user Jakub Urlich spotted over a dozen "snake worm" processions (pleń) on a trail in the Beskid Niski mountains, including one forming a circle — an exceptionally rare sight, as even a single procession is unusual. The phenomenon is caused by larvae of the fungus gnat Sciara militaris, which form columns of thousands of nearly transparent grubs. The processions have long held a place in Polish folk belief as omens, and a separate sighting was also reported in the Tatra Mountains a month ago.
