July 22: The Communist Holiday That Once Shut Down All of Poland

For decades, July 22 was the most important state holiday in communist Poland — the National Day of Poland's Rebirth, marking the 1944 PKWN Manifesto. Workplaces, schools and offices shut down, and parades were held across the country. After 1989, the holiday was abolished and is now largely forgotten by most Poles.
