Subaru drops mild-hybrid e-BOXER, shifts fully to Toyota's strong hybrid tech

Subaru will stop taking orders for mild-hybrid models in Japan by autumn 2026, phasing out its e-BOXER powertrain introduced in 2018. The lineup will split into three segments: combustion engines, strong hybrids using Toyota's S:HEV technology, and fully electric vehicles. The Crosstrek will move to a full hybrid, while the Impreza stays with an ICE. Stricter emissions rules and market shifts are driving the change.
