mRNA HIV Vaccine Edges Closer to Reality, Led by African Scientists

In January 2025, South African researcher Linda-Gail Bekker visited a vaccine manufacturing plant and became convinced that the first HIV vaccine candidate conceived and led by African scientists could become reality. The vaccine uses mRNA technology – the same platform behind COVID-19 vaccines – and represents a major milestone in global HIV research.
