Algeria: two doctors die after gruelling on-call shifts, colleagues demand reform
A resident neurosurgeon in Algeria died of a heart attack after a 24-hour shift, and an anaesthesiologist died just days later. Colleagues say both deaths are the result of years of chronic overwork, understaffing and inadequate conditions in public hospitals. Doctors are demanding a revision of on-call rules that have not been updated since 2013.
