NASA-ISRO NISAR Satellite Captures 'Hummingbird' Ice Formation in Antarctica

The US-India NISAR satellite's L-band radar has produced a striking image of Nunatak Zaterjavshijsja, a mountaintop in East Antarctica poking above a stream of ice flowing northeast toward the ocean. The obstruction creates stress in the surrounding ice, forming deep crevasses that appear as sharp green lines in the image. Captured in August 2025, the image has been nicknamed the "Hummingbird" due to its distinctive shape.
