Moldova picks political newcomer Vasile Tofan as new prime minister

Moldova has chosen Vasile Tofan, a political newcomer, as its new prime minister. Tofan inherits the country's ambition to join the European Union by 2030 and will lead negotiations at a critical stage of the accession process. Moldova accelerated its EU bid after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
