Hawaiian Airlines to replace ageing 717s with Alaska's Boeing 737-800s from 2028

Alaska Air Group announced plans to replace Hawaiian Airlines' ageing Boeing 717 fleet with Alaska Airlines' Boeing 737-800s, with the transition set to begin in 2028. The larger jets will be refurbished and repainted in Hawaiian livery before operating inter-island routes. Currently, the 717s fly up to 160 daily flights between five major Hawaiian airports — Honolulu, Maui, Lihue, Kona and Hilo — and average around 25 years of age.
