Senegal backs ex-president Macky Sall for UN Secretary-General

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has reversed course and announced his support for former president Macky Sall's bid to become UN Secretary-General. The two men were previously political rivals. The news comes alongside reports of a deadly ambush in northern Mali that killed at least 50 soldiers, and warnings about foreign fighters joining jihadist groups in Nigeria.
