Astronomers Discover a "Dark Comet" Hiding as an Ordinary Asteroid

A team led by Davide Farnocchia of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory discovered that an object previously classified as a routine asteroid is actually a "dark comet," according to a new paper published in Nature Astronomy. Dark comets are rocky bodies that exhibit comet-like behaviour without the visible gas or dust trail. The find highlights ongoing gaps in humanity's ability to track and categorise small objects in space.
