Canada joins UK-Italy-Japan sixth-generation fighter jet programme

Britain, Italy and Japan have welcomed Canada as an observer nation in the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), aimed at fielding a sixth-generation fighter jet by 2035. The announcement was made near Buckingham Palace by defence ministers of all four countries. It marks the first major move by Britain's new Defence Secretary Wes Streeting, appointed by Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
