Faintest exoplanet ever seen from Earth identified as Beta Pictoris d

Astronomers have detected Beta Pictoris d, the faintest exoplanet ever observed from Earth, which had been hiding in plain sight near its host star. The novel detection method used in the discovery could open the door to spotting other extremely dim exoplanets. The findings were published online on 21 July 2026 in Nature.
