Researchers have discovered a thriving coral reef off the coast of Benin in West Africa, in an area where reefs had long been presumed dead or absent. The find surprised scientists as the region was not previously associated with significant coral ecosystems. The discovery could reshape understanding of the global distribution of coral reefs.
