Israeli intelligence reportedly ran a covert operation aimed at removing Iran's ayatollahs from power. According to a report, Mossad considered backing former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as an alternative to the current regime. The plan reportedly fell apart due to complications involving Kurds, Turkey and the United States.
