Russia sells gold for sixth straight month — a 25-year record — to fund the war

Russia has been selling its gold reserves for six consecutive months to plug a massive budget deficit caused by war spending, according to The Moscow Times — the largest sell-off in at least 25 years. The Kremlin has resorted to such large-scale gold sales only once before in recorded history. Western sanctions and mounting military costs are putting severe pressure on Russian state finances.
