Fortnite adds Pokémon-style companion battles in new update

Fortnite is expanding its Sidekicks feature — small animal companions that have followed players in battle for nearly a year — by giving them active gameplay roles in the style of Pokémon. A new trailer confirms that these digital companions will no longer be purely cosmetic. Epic Games appears to be directly inspired by Nintendo's Pokémon combat and collection mechanics.
