Meliá closes all 34 Cuba hotels as US sanctions make operations "impossible"

Spanish hotel group Meliá is ceasing all operations in Cuba by the end of the week, closing all 34 of its properties on the island. The company says growing US sanctions under Donald Trump make it "impossible, de facto and de jure" to maintain even minimal operational stability. Meliá announced the decision in a statement to Spain's stock market regulator.
