NASA Develops Compact Particle Detector for CubeSat Missions

A NASA-sponsored team has built a compact, multi-view particle detection instrument called REAL for the Relativistic Electron Atmospheric Loss CubeSat mission. The device uses miniaturized sensors to measure how energetic particles are transported and lost in Earth's Van Allen radiation belts. The innovation makes high-fidelity space-weather measurements accessible to small, low-cost spacecraft for the first time.
