NATO faces critical ammunition shortage due to lack of nitrocellulose cotton
NATO is grappling with a serious shortage of nitrocellulose (gun cotton), the key raw material used in the production of propellant and ammunition. Limited manufacturing capacity and dependence on a small number of suppliers are hampering member states' ability to replenish their ammunition stocks. The problem is especially acute against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and surging demand for munitions.
