China's Chang'e-6 Explains Why Solar Wind Hits Moon's Two Sides Differently
Samples returned by China's Chang'e-6 mission reveal that solar wind particles penetrate deeper into the far-side lunar soil than the near side, because Earth's magnetosphere slows particles reaching the near side. Noble gases trapped in the regolith preserved a record of this asymmetric bombardment. Scientists say these gases could help reconstruct the ancient history of Earth's own magnetic shield.
