Hidden Solar "Switch-Off" Signal Could Predict Solar Storms Seven Years Early

Scientists have identified a "switch-off" turning point in the Sun's 11-year cycle at which the most violent space weather abruptly ends. The number of sunspots remaining at this point provides clues about the strength of the next cycle up to seven years in advance. Early projections suggest Solar Cycle 26 will be moderate, with a more precise forecast expected in about two years.
