Russia drafts law to seize assets of exiled citizens convicted in absentia

A bill has been submitted to Russia's State Duma that would tighten rules against emigrants convicted in absentia under laws used to suppress dissent since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The legislation would cut off access to banking services, block property management and give the state tools to seize money and assets. The measure primarily targets Russian dissidents and Kremlin critics living abroad.
