19 million Nigerian children stay out of school fearing kidnapping

Nigeria has 19 million children out of school, representing 27% of its child population — one of the world's highest rates — largely driven by fear of kidnapping. Since the mass abduction of Chibok schoolgirls in 2014, waves of school kidnappings have continued. The 46 children and teachers abducted on May 15 in Oyo state were rescued and reunited with their families on July 10.
