Volkswagen engineers explored the possibility of fitting the electric ID. Buzz minivan with a petrol range-extender engine acting as a generator. The concept was ultimately not put into production, leaving the ID. Buzz as a fully electric vehicle. Such a system could have addressed range-anxiety concerns for drivers on longer journeys.
