DCC and other traps: how Poles lose money at foreign ATMs and card terminals
The biggest financial trap for Polish tourists abroad is Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC), which allows payment terminals to convert transactions into Polish zloty at an unfavourable exchange rate instead of settling in the local currency. Currency specialist Łukasz Paszkiewicz advises always choosing to pay in the local currency and avoiding tourist-area ATMs that charge high fees. A moment of inattention can cost several hundred zloty on a single transaction.
