New Mercedes-Maybach GLS Teased with Illuminated Grille and Opulent Cabin

A teaser previews the luxury SUV with illuminated badges and a glowing grille surround.

Similar upgrades to those made to the Maybach sedan are likely, including new forged wheels.

The cabin will feature opulent captain’s chairs clad in plush leather, plus plenty more.

Mercedes-Maybach has wasted no time in working its magic on the recently facelifted GLS , previewing its new flagship SUV on social media. It won’t be beautiful, but it’ll certainly be bold and should be able to match the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga in the luxury stakes.

It’s been just over three months since the GLS, as well as the GLE and GLE Coupe, was updated with revised styling that includes star-shaped daytime running lights and tweaked LED taillights. The new Maybach GLS will build upon the standard model and be appointed with the finest materials that the German brand can get its hands on.

In this short teaser clip shared to Instagram, we can see the new Maybach GLS will retain the standard model’s DRLs, but also include an illuminated ring around the front grille. In addition, there’s an illuminated Maybach logo and a glowing Mercedes-Benz badge positioned on the hood.

What Else Is Different?

Just like the pre-facelift model, the new GLS from Maybach will no doubt come loaded with chrome parts, including the front grille, air intakes, and parts of the front and rear bumpers. Its launch will come just a few months after the new S-Class from Maybach, so it may too feature similar forged wheels with a floating star center cap.

Similarly, the new GLS should adopt the company’s flagship MBUX Superscreen setup with special Maybach graphics and menus. We also expect to see spacious captain’s chairs in the second row, a refrigerated storage compartment, and the finest leather imaginable.

Powertrain details are not yet known. The outgoing GLS 600 from Maybach is driven by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with 550 hp and 538 lb-ft (729 Nm) of torque. In all likelihood, the updated Maybach will receive Mercedes-Benz’s new flat-plane crank 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, producing a similar amount of power but crucially being Euro 7 compliant.
