Trump announces 50% tariff on selected Canadian goods from August 19

President Donald Trump on Monday announced a 50 percent tariff on selected Canadian exports, effective August 19, invoking Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930 — a law never before used to impose tariffs. The hike covers goods including wine, honey, textiles, fishing rods, jewellery and furniture. Unlike previous rounds, products covered under the USMCA trade agreement will not be exempt this time.
