US Air Force tests AI-piloted F-16s in VENOM autonomy program

The US Air Force has begun piloted flights and autonomy tests of modified F-16 Fighting Falcons under the VENOM (Viper Experimentation and Next-gen Operations Model) program. AI agents control the aircraft through additional hardware, software and instrumentation installed on board. Tests are conducted at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, with human pilots in the cockpit monitoring the AI throughout each sortie.
