US enforces naval blockade of Iran: 9 nights of strikes, tanker disabled near Kharg Island

As of July 20, 2026, US CENTCOM announced the end of a ninth consecutive night of precision strikes degrading Iranian military capabilities, with a tenth round beginning. Since reinstating a naval blockade on July 14, US forces have redirected seven commercial vessels and disabled one unladen oil tanker heading toward Kharg Island using AGM-114 Hellfire missiles fired into its smokestack. The weekly carrier tracker by The War Zone monitors the positions of US carrier strike groups and amphibious ready groups enforcing the blockade.
