Reykjavik's Hljómskálinn Pavilion: Iceland's First Purpose-Built Music Venue, Built in 1923
The octagonal Hljómskálinn Pavilion on the shore of Tjörnin lake in Reykjavik, built in 1923, was the first building in Iceland purpose-built as a music venue. The Reykjavik Brass Band has been based there since its construction and performed from the rooftop in good weather. Iceland's first music school operated there from 1922 to 1924, and the Reykjavik Music College was founded on the site in 1930.
