Ortega Says Nicaragua Will Hold No More Elections
Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, in power since 2007, announced that the country will hold no further elections in order to prevent the opposition from coming to power. The 80-year-old authoritarian said he will work with his congress to pass new laws building a "wall" against the opposition. The move effectively eliminates political competition in the country.
