Senegal U-Turns to Back Ex-President Macky Sall for UN Secretary-General

Senegal's government reversed course on Monday, announcing it would support former president Macky Sall's bid to become the next UN Secretary-General, replacing Antonio Guterres when his term ends. The government had previously refused to back Sall, accusing him of deadly political repression during his presidency. The about-face followed a weekend visit by Sall to the sitting president in Dakar.
