Camp X: The Allied Secret Training Base That Inspired James Bond

Camp X, officially Special Training School No. 103, operated from 1941 on the shores of Lake Ontario near Whitby, Ontario. Allied agents were trained there in sabotage, espionage, explosives and silent killing, while the "Hydra" radio station relayed encrypted messages across the Atlantic. After the war, Soviet defector Igor Gouzenko was secretly housed and debriefed there, and Ian Fleming's visits to the camp reportedly helped inspire the James Bond character.
