Scientists freeze koala sperm and eggs to save the species from extinction

Scientists in Australia are preserving koala sperm and eggs in liquid nitrogen in a bid to boost genetic diversity in future populations of the iconic marsupial. Koalas are at risk of extinction in some parts of Australia, and loss of genetic diversity is one of the key threats facing the species. The cryopreservation project aims to create a biological reserve that could help restore populations in the future.
