Hamas negotiator Khalil al-Hayya to lead the group as new overall chief

Khalil al-Hayya, a veteran Hamas leader and the group's chief ceasefire negotiator, is set to become Hamas's new overall leader. Based in Qatar, al-Hayya spent months leading indirect ceasefire negotiations with Israel. He replaces Yahya Sinwar, who was killed by Israeli forces in Gaza in 2024.
